What is "Encuentro Milonguero"?

If you have already taken part in an „Encuentro Milonguero” type tango marathon and you know what it is, please don't read any further. :-)

If this is the first time for you, here are the most important things:

„Encuentro Milongueros” use „codigos” – habits and rules - of traditional milongas in Buenos Aires like Cachirulo, El Beso, La National, etc.
  • invitation is by mirada/cabaceo: please use your eyes and head for invitation. There will be enough light to see the other side of the ballroom;
  • milonguero-people like close embrace - please use it;
  • please avoid high boleos and ganchos;
  • most of the dancers choose partner in accordance with the music: one tanda with one partner is usual, everyone tries to sit down between tandas. After cortinas the empty dance floor helps in mirada/cabaceo;
  • don’t expect alternative, neo or electro tango music;
The code is more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules.” – we just ask you to take care of the other dancers.
